A Circular Approach To Planning
Woodard & Curran is an integrated science, engineering, design-build, and operations company specializing in water and environmental projects. The firm, established in 1979, employs 1,300 people and has 27 locations throughout the U.S. with its largest physical presence in Portland, Maine. Woodard & Curran’s vision is “Clean water, safe environment, healthy communities, happy people.” Sustainability and protecting the environment are important to Woodard & Curran.
The firm had occupied a building on the outskirts of Portland for more than 30 years and was ready to relocate to a more modern space in downtown Portland. The firm’s focus on the environment was a driving factor in us applying Circular Economy principles to create a circular workplace. The newly designed office has a high percentage of shared focus rooms and workspaces, no assigned private offices, and a variety of collaboration and meeting spaces, providing an activity-based working environment. We provided pre-design, schematic design, programming, and change management services, collaborating with Cuningham Architects and Creative Office Resources to create a workplace that reflects the client’s values and vision.
